Cooktown in Far North Qld is just a magnificent little town with a significant history.
But that's another story. This story is about the cute lighthouse and timing of the Milky Way above it for this particular shot.
 
Having driven up here on my motorbike and with my hammock set up in the campground below I set out to capture this shot of the Milky Way that I had conceived months before.
 
As luck, fate or whatever you want to call would be, as I pulled my tripod off the motorbike it fell to the floor and one of the cast leg mounts to the tripod broke, rendering it pretty much useless to me, or so I initially thought.
 
After a few minutes of scratching my head I located some cable ties in one of the panniers of the bike and managed after a few attempts to strap the tripod in position so as to be able to take photos.
 
Things don’t always go to plan I have discovered in landscape photography but, as in life, its not always about how you handle the straight sections of road, its about how you handle the corners that matters...
