I was working at Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre in 2021 when I captured this photo of a juvenile Cassowary in the wild. It’s rare to capture juveniles on camera and so this is a special shot to me. I went into the rainforest as he had been spotted by the bus driver. Leaning against a tree from 8m away I tried to get a shot of it but because of the light and the lens I was using I was not getting a crystal-clear shot. I went down on my tummy and commando crawled a few metres closer, trying my best to be ever so quiet.
I then managed to get shots hand held at a super slow shutter speed for the lens I was using. After a few minutes the Cassowary just sat down and vanished into the undergrowth. I subsequently slowly retreated out of the rainforest and left him/her alone.
