"Majestic"
 
In August 2026 I climbed about half of the 2200 steps that go up the side of Mt Olivier in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park. I had planned for 9 months to get a shot on the New Moon. However the weather is as one would expect unpredictable. I was lucky enough to get a single day of clear weather after the new moon. So mid afternoon I climbed the steps and prepared my composition. Knowing the Milky Way would be orientated vertically later in the evening I waiting 6 hrs at almost zero degrees until finally I got the shot of the Milky Way and Mt Cook.
 
This is a composite image. The foreground taken an hr before the Milky Way was in position. Both the tripod and the lens remain in the same position but the settings are changed to make this shot possible. Two shots blended together.
