Introducing "MONET" a limited edition fine art print from the Cairns Crystalbrook Bailey Featured Artist Exhibition "HONEST" held in November 2024.

Monet was shot late in the afternoon at a local campground not far from Mareeba in Far North Queensland.

The campground is called Emerald Creek Camping.

Having booked a favourite spot by the edge of the lake and having enjoyed a relaxing day and afternoon I waited until the late afternoon sun was setting and set up the camera.

Rather than using a typical wide-angle lens for my landscape shots I deliberately attached a 70-300mm zoom and at full zoom (300mm) positioned the shot as captured with the camera attached to a tripod of course. I was on the other side of the lake and so liked the zoom compression effect the lens was giving me.

With the lake almost like glass the warm colours reflected beautifully across the water from the trees on the embankment. Look carefully and you will see a cormorant on the pontoon (I only noticed this a few weeks later…
